2018 Sacramento Area Girls Fire Camp

Sacramento, California * November 3-4, 2018

Sacramento area fire agencies are joining together to bring the first Sacramento Area Girls Fire Camp (SAGFC) to our community. The SAGFC is a free 2-day camp for teens in grades 9-12 and will be held at a Sacramento area fire training facility November 3-4, 2018.

Women continue to face significant barriers to full and effective participation in nontraditional occupations. Challenges continue to exist with networking, mentorship, and sponsorship as well as stereotypical biases which keep women from realizing full economic independence and leadership potential. According to the United States Department of Labor, women account for only 5.7% of all career firefighters. Our mission is to empower young women to become future leaders.

This camp gives young women a chance to experience what a career in the fire service entails. The campers will be working side by side with professional woman firefighters in empowering leadership roles. Through their participation in fire service related team work and skill rotations, they will discover the power and confidence that lies within each of them, as well as career and leadership possibilities for their future.

To support our mission, we are seeking monetary and in-kind donations. We cordially invite you to partner with the SAGFC, a program under the umbrella of the Sacramento Fire Department and Community Foundation (SFDCF), a 501(c)(3). Your donation will make this empowering experience possible for young women throughout the Sacramento region.
